Roxanne Guinoo, the New
Face of GET LAUD!

This girl’s fashion evolution is simply fantastic. From a typical jeans and shirt gal, she has transformed into a certified fashion connoisseur.

ROXANNE GUINOO’s fame skyrocketed when she joined the reality search “Star Circle Quest” of her mother studio ABS-CBN. Who would have thought that a coy lass from Cavite will pit talent against veterans in the industry?

She with a pretty face and buxom body has been a subject of nasty rumors lately. Since linking her with ex- beau Jake Cuenca, rumor-mongers had a field day trying to put her down to no avail. Being a fighter that she is, she just laughed it off and minded her own business.

After years of struggling as teen actress doing smorgasbord projects, she is gradually reaping the fruits of her labor in a manner of speaking. What with several top-rating teleseryes and out-of-town shows, indeed Roxanne Guinoo’s time has really come.

Not only that, she has become a most-sought-after product endorser as well. One of the brands that commissioned her as image model is GET LAUD apparel. The clothing brand that primarily targets stylish women is owned by husband and wife tandem Dareen and Gigi Laudencia. The duo’s philosophy is to create a clothing brand that is chic, trendy and comfortable but not too expensive. Their goal is for Filipina women to be fashionable regardless of their social status, lifestyle or profession.

GET LAUD started as a kiosk in Alabang Town Center in 2003. The Laudencia’s imported Spandex fabric abroad and turned it into quality wear for women of all sizes. Aside from their small mall space, they also participated in countless bazaars. The quality, design and affordability of their clothes became the vehicle for the rapid success of their company.

According to owner/designer Gigi Laudencia, the reason why they got Roxanne is due to her comely face and fashion savvy. Furthermore, Roxanne epitomizes the vision of the company which is to give every Filipina locally made stylish and comfortable clothing that fits their lifestyle and profession.

“Aside from her good looks and demure nature which is very Filipina, Roxanne continues to evolve as a woman, career and personality wise. That is how Get Laud is in terms of company development. We never get tired of producing new designs that follow international fashion trends yet suitable for the Filipina,” Gigi continues.

Get Laud’s quality has been proven again recently with the Most Promising Retailer Award for 2007 from the Ayala Malls (Market Market), in addition to National Product Quality Excellence Award’s Seal of Product Quality for Best Spandex Retail for 2006 and the Most Promising Retailer for 2007 for Market Market Award at the Ayala Malls Marketing Excellence 2007 Awards.

DANIELE CASTANO, our country's “MISS WORLD” bet

Last week, yours truly was invited to the send-off party for Daniel Kirsten Muriel Castaño, our official candidate to this year’s “Miss World 2008” search.

It was held at the posh Mandarin Oriental Suites in Gateway Mall and graced by selected media people, corporate sponsors and former Binibining Pilipinas titleholders. I also spotted Madam Stella Marquez de Araneta exchanging pleasantries with her elite guests while waiting for the “queens” to arrive.

The “by-invitation-only“ event marked the formal announcement of Castaño as official replacement of Janina San Miguel who allegedly resigned from her post due to conflicting statements that baffled pageant aficionados to this day.

Some people say Danielle is far better than her predecessor when it comes to speaking English. With her American accent alone, that would be an edge over other candidates in the coming global pageant.

Before appearing on stage, Danielle was welcomed by her two other “sisters” to give her much-needed moral support, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Jennifer Barrientos and Bb. Pilipinas-International Patricia Fernandez. Incidentally, Fernandez made a strong impact in the recently-concluded Miss international 2008 search when she landed as semi-finalist.

According to Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), Danielle is the right choice for Miss World competition due to her charming demeanor, comely face and innate intelligence. Her confidence is another factor that can make her clinch the crown. In fact during the presscon’s one-on-one interview, a TV reporter asked if she’s nervous and Danielle’s answer was a resounding “No!”

This 19-year-old charmer is a cross between Hollywood celebrity Vanessa Minillo and former Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera. During the Binibining Pilipinas 2008 coronation night, she was one of crowd favorites and went home with five special awards from generous sponsors.

But how is she preparing for the pageant? According to the press kit distributed by BPCI, Danielle is currently undergoing a series of rigorous training in catwalk and personality development. By the time she leaves for South Africa, Danielle is ready to compete with 106 delegates from the same number of countries.

Castano’s strong faith in God plus immense support from Filipino people will help her win (hopefully) the elusive Miss World crown. “I know that God won’t be with me during the entire pageant, but I know He’ll guide me through” was her touching explanation.

Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated (BPCI) is a non-stock, non-profit organization whose primary vision is to help less-fortunate individuals through organizing beauty pageants. Apart from producing world-class beauty queens, BPCI has been a key partner in nation-building and donates all its earnings to orphanages and other humanitarian endeavors.

MISS WORLD 2008 will be held at Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Charo Ronquillo, Pinay Supermodel

While the nation continues to laud local singing talents Charice Pempengco and Arnel Pineda, a simple lass from Laguna is taking the international modeling scene by storm.

Charo Ronquillo is the first Filipina model who made it big internationally. After winning local “Supermodel-Philippines 2005” contest, Ronquillo’s star shone brighter than ever.

Palibhasa’y pangarap na talaga niyang maging model since she was 12 years old, kayat napapayag agad siya.

Charo joined countless modeling competitions sa loob ng limang taon hanggang sa mag-audition siya sa local search ng Supermodel. Fortunately, she won the coveted title which enabled her to represent the Philippines in the international competition. In a nutshell, she became famous.

It goes without saying that she’s now in the league of Anna Bayle and Melanie Marquez who both made a name for themselves internationally. Tulad ni Charo, ibayong tiyaga din ang pinagdaanan ni Melanie at Anna before reaching their status as international fashion icons. Now, both have become successful businesswomen and, once in a while, still dabble in modeling.

After placing a strong 3rd in the “2006 Supermodel of the World” Finals, her quest for global fame continues. Dubbed as Asian Kate Moss, Ronquillo has appeared in various international fashion magazines such as Spanish Vogue, Teen Vogue, Marie Claire Paris and US, Glamour.

Along with other famous supermodels, she has graced the catwalks of New York Fashion Week modeling for top labels/designers like Lacoste, Lela Rose, Nanette Lapore, Zero Maria Cornejo, Tory Burch, Antonio Berardi, Kenneth Cole, Mac Cosmetics Barbie Collection, Zaldy by Gwen Stefani, BCBG, Sisley and Benetton.

Prior to her global fame, however, life has been quite difficult for this svelte lady. Simple lang ang kinalakihang buhay ni Charo sa Laguna. While her mom works abroad, sila ng kanyang mga kapatid ay nag-aral at lumaki sa piling ng mabait na lola. Hindi nga raw akalain ng mga kaibigan niya that she will end up as famous model dahil sa pagiging boyish niya when she was growing up.

Sa kasalukuyan, she’s based in New York City at patuloy pa ring humahataw ang isang Charo Ronquillo sa modeling world. Let’s hope that she continues to live her dream at patuloy pa siyang magbigay ng karangalan sa ating bansa.

Incidentally, patuloy pa ring naghahanap ang Calcarries Model Management ng mga aspiring model who can follow the footsteps of our very own Pinay supermodel Charo Ronquillo.

Just check their website on how to join the local “Supermodel-Philippines’ search.

ANNE FRANCOIS: fashion world’s next big thing

Hers is one of the most beautiful faces I have seen in my years of covering the fashion beat. Once you stare at her spotless face, you will be mesmerized.

No wonder, a lot of companies want to get her as product endorser. Certainly, Anne Francois's “tisay” features is a rare find. Spending childhood years in Hongkong did not hinder Anne from embracing the Pinoy culture. After all, she can't deny the fact that Filipino blood runs through her veins.

Her loving mother instilled in her the importance of respect, self-discipline and being kind to everyone, "I know they watch my every move and the way I present myself to the public. I try to be as amiable as possible with the people I work with. So far, my experience here in the Philippines is simply gratifying," she said.
Barely six months in the country, Anne has done quite a number of big and small modeling projects. She just wrapped up a fashion pictorial for high-end clothing brand FASHION EXCHANGE (or FX for short). The said fashion brand has a very elegant image yet the items are affordable. FX products are of high quality and superb style, perfect for fashionistas.

The pictorial lasted for a day but Anne never complained. On the contrary, she enjoyed it to the hilt. Right now, Anne juggles between modeling and finishing her Tourism course in one of the well-known universities in Hongkong. She is also the new face of GLUTAmin beauty soap that whitens the skin and removes dirt caused by toxic materials.

A brand of expensive jewelry shop is likewise interested in getting her as image model.

Melanie Marquez, the quintessential fashion icon

She is the epitome of a timeless beauty. Just a mere mention of her name conjures an image of a woman ethereally beautiful.

At the recent media conference-cum-fashion pictorial of MELANIE MARQUEZ, marami ang nakapuna na patuloy na bumabata ang kanyang aura. I couldn’t help but asked why she looks so radiant despite her age. “I’m just happy and contented,” simpleng sagot ng fashion icon.

Indeed, in the volatile world of modeling, Melanie is still a force to reckon with.

Ngunit bago niya nakamit ang kanyang insurmountable achievements, dumaan muna sa hirap si Melanie. Everybody knows what she had gone through in order to achieve all these blessings. According to her, lahat ng ito ay nakuha niya ng walang ginamit o tinapakang tao. Kaya naman, blessings keep pouring in to this gracious lady.

In fact, halos lahat ng kasabayan niyang top models in her genre have either retired or gone matronly. Ngunit hataw pa rin si Melanie sa modeling world and she’s been receiving projects left and right. In short, she can still give younger batch of models a run for their money.

When asked kung sino sa tingin niya ang susunod sa kanyang yapak, wala pa raw siyang maisip. Which is true, it will take time before someone could surpass (or at least, match) Melanie Marquez’ accomplishments here and abroad.

No wonder, Psalmstre Enterprises commissioned her as chief endorser of their beauty products NEW PLACENTA. For the past four years, Melanie has been the face of the best-selling brand of whitening soap at siya mismo ay gumagamit ng nasabing produkto.

“Before I accept any product endorsement, I make it a point to use it first to test the efficacy. I don’t wanna put my name into something na hindi ko pinagkaka-tiwalaan. To this day, ginagamit ko pa rin ang New Placenta soap for my skin and I even encourage my family to use it as well,” sambit pa ni Marquez.

Kaya naman, sa latest pictorial niya dressed in elegant clothes, one can’t help but gush on her perpetually-young beauty. Undoubtedly, when it comes to projection and flirting with the camera, no one can beat Melanie. Idagdag pa rito na she has perfect symmetry kaya hindi mahirap hanapan ng anggulo.

My personal favorite in the said photo shoot was the figure-hugging silver gown she wore during the presscon proper. She looked ravishing in that “shining, shimmering, splendid” outfit na talaga namang kumikinang-kinang pa. Her sexiness and positive aura exude in that particular sequined dress. Kahit yung mga media people who covered the event ay napahanga sa beauty ng nag-iisang supermodel.

After answering non-stop queries from the media, Melanie transformed into a dainty lady in that pink bareback dress paired with exquisite jewelry. Meanwhile, the ultimate supermodel looked very regal in that white-chiffon pantsuit na tinernuhan ng green long-sleeve blouse that showed her ageless beauty.

The said fashion pictorial will be used for the latest advertising campaign of New Placenta soap aptly called “MELANIE: Kutis Bagets, Pang-International!”

Everybody knows that modeling is such a lucrative job. Once you get the hang of it, you’ve become addicted like anybody else. Aside from the perks that it brings, bumping into well-known celebrities makes the experience more exciting.

FEATURED MODEL - ROANNE REFREA

ROANNE REFREA
World-Class beauty

She has conquered the world at the palm of her hand. And no one has taken notice of it. Not even a tinge of support from government but still, she landed in the top ten.

In the prestigious 2007 World Miss University beauty pageant, ROANNE REFREA proved what a real Filipina beauty is. Out of 30-plus candidates from same number of countries, Refrea made her presence felt to the consternation of other delegates. Not bad for someone who doesn’t have any international exposure to speak of.

After said pageant, she was swamped with modeling offers from various advertising agencies. As a matter of fact, Roanne is one of the grand winners in this year’s “Palmolive Shining Circle of 10” contest and alumna of upscale modeling school John Robert Powers.

FEATURED MODEL - GRACE EDANGAL

GRACE EDANGAL

Pretty Woman

In today’s local modeling scene, you won’t get any project if you’re not foreign-looking.

Gone are the days when advertisers look for Pinay girls with morena complexion. Haven’t you noticed? Most of the models being tapped for Advertising campaign are either Brazilians or those with Caucasian features. It is such a pity for local talents whose only wish is to see their faces on TV or in huge billboards all over EDSA.

On the other hand, we can’t blame advertisers because it adds global appeal to the brand they’re endorsing. To be blunt about it, those are the types that sell a certain product.

One pretty gal who’s slowly carving a name in the fashion scene is Grace Edangal. This half-Pinay, half-German girl has appeared in some television advertisements particularly the “My Juizz” commercial. She was also seen in the Globe print Ad and the Sundance fashion show held at Victory Mall last May.

Her lovely face has graced the pages of Woman Today magazine’s special beauty issue. Standing at 5’7, her extra-ordinary beauty could definitely launch a thousand products in a manner of speaking.

Every Sunday, you can spot him on the street court playing basketball with his chums. Billiards is another thing that catches his fancy.

A 2nd year Business Management student at San Sebastian College, Jules’ ultimate goal is to finish his course with flying colors. The eldest son of business-minded couple Edgardo and Teresita Sy, his ambition is to have a stable job in the future. He has done quite a number of modeling projects too.

FEATURED MODEL

KERWIN CABALLERO
Cerebral Guy

His boyish charm can be perceived as naïve but he’s very clever in person. Living by himself in the big city, Kerwin Caballero’s sunny disposition has won him lots of chums in and out of modeling circuit.

Kerwin is the kind of person that you can lean on. In fact, most of his friends seek solace of advice from him. Be it matters of heart or otherwise, he has a way of cheering them up in the most benign way. What annoys him most, however, are backbiters and people with shady attitude.

Mind you, they are aplenty in fashion industry.

In ramp shows or photo shoots, he easily blends with other models due to his likeable demeanor, “One of the reasons why I like modeling is to gain more friends. Since I’m just new in this business, the more I should be friendly with everyone. Also the perks and huge talent fees that go with it, hehe,” he reveals.

A 3rd year Architecture student at Technological Institute of the Philippines, Kerwin plans to take further studies abroad, “Upon completion of my course, I want to work in the US and apply what I’ve learned there. I also want to save more money and put up my own company to help jobless Filipinos,” says future philanthropist.

In the recently-concluded Hair Asia’s “18th National Open Championship”, Kerwin was adjudged as grand champion (Model Category). In Sundance’ 8th anniversary celebration held at Le Pavilion, he was one of the featured ramp models and grand finalist at Eye Catchers’ Model Search Season 1.

So far, he has done several modeling projects and joining show business might be his next target.

Eye-catching lass

A nineteen-year old stunner from Queen City of the South is trying her luck in Manila's fashion scene. Jody Michelle Yu, a half-Spanish half-Chinese girl has dreamt of being a top model someday. For her, modeling isn’t all about fame and glory, "My being a model helped a lot in terms of molding myself as a person. Its more of like having fun, about handling myself in a right manner and learning from every experience along the way," Jody states matter-of-factly.

Aside from modeling, her favorite pastime is hanging out with members of The Story Circle. It’s a group of wonderful magicians, mentalists, and card manipulators who have dedicated their time and effort to entertaining people.

I feel like I was born to entertain, and I believe that through TSC, I could instill in their minds that nothing is impossible if you just keep on trying. TSC is like a family to me, and I'm proud to be part of the organization,” explains Jody.

This independent-minded girl is a film buff too. She can finish several DVD movies in one sitting, “I usually download movies from the net. I love watching comedy, horror and action flicks. Actually, anything that interests me,” she says.
